*CALL TO WORSHIP

One:         We cry out for spiritual blessings.

Many:      What must I do to inherit eternal life?

One:         We declare that we have done what God asked of us.

Many:      We have loved the Lord with all of our heart, soul, strength, and mind.

One:         Have you loved your neighbor as yourself?

      Many:      Yes.

One:         Later, we have second thoughts and ask a curious questions .

      Many:      Who is my neighbor?

One:         Jesus tells us a story about someone who traveled through “that” neighborhood, of the attack and injury.

Many:      Such a sad story, what was he doing there in the first place?

One:         Jesus tells of those who pass by, and of the one who stopped, then he asked:   Which of these people do you think was a neighbor to the wounded traveler?

      Many:      The answer is obvious.

All:          Help us to do what God obviously expects us to do.

*HYMN                                           “ America The Beautiful”                                    Hymn #696

RECOGNIZING VETERANS

*OPENING PRAYER

Lord our God, you want us not to seek security, but to seek the insecurity of committing ourselves to you and to others.   Give us the courage to take the risk and, like Jesus, make the sacrifice of giving ourselves to you, so that through your spirit, we may know and love our neighbor, as you know and love us in Christ Jesus our Lord.   Amen.
