FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Sunday School – 9:30 a.m. Informal Worship – 8:30 a.m. Traditional Worship – 10:45 a.m. November 4, 2007 Theme: Celebrating the past; preparing for the future. WORSHIP PREPARATION THOUGHT: “For each child that's born, a morning star rises and sings to the universe who we are. We are our grandmothers' prayers. We are our grandfathers' dreamings. We are the breath of our ancestors. We are the spirit of God.” From the song: “We Are” by Ysaye M. Barnwell CALL OF CHURCH BELL REGISTRATION OF ATTENDANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS OPENING VOLUNTARY “He Leadeth Me” Arr. by Jerry Ray Ben Hanley, Piano *CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: When the people of God come together, they share the stories of faith with one another, and listen for how God is speaking to them through these stories and through their gathering in worship and in service. People: In doing this, the people are standing in the stream of history, which has been created by these stories. Leader: At the same time, the people are continuing the creation of the stories, and carrying them on into the future. People: Today, as we gather to commemorate this All Saints Day as the bearers of the Story of God, we, too, will listen for how God is speaking to us, individually, and to the church, that we are together. Leader: So, that by The Spirit's power, we will move toward the future into which God beckons us. *HYMN “What Gift Can We Bring” Hymn #87 *OPENING PRAYER Almighty God, your saints are one with you in the mystical body of Christ: give us grace to follow them in all virtue and holiness until we come to those inexpressible joys which you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who is alive with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God now and for ever.
