Giving trees celebrate record generosity
Members of Lebanon First UMC contributed in record numbers to the Angel and the Mitten & Hat Trees in 2011. Tina Freeman, who headed up the Angel Tree ministry, reported that 73 families and nearly 200 children received gifts donated by church members. Casey Andrew, who dismantled a heavily laden Mitten & Hat Tree for the United Methodist Women, counted 94 hats, 11 scarves, 64 gloves and 23 sets of hats/mittens for contribution to Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House in E. St. Louis.
Angel Tree gifts filled tables in Fellowship Hall the week of December 12. Several of Tina's "angels" helped sort and wrap the gifts.
"These two ministries are a prime example of the generous heart of this church," smiled Rev. Peter Wehrly. "Our members and friends understand the needs in our community and work hard to meet them, especially at this time of year."
